Families who want to get information about adoption in Nevada can visit the online web site for the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Potential adoptive families can also contact a licensed child-placing agency.

Private agencies can help to facilitate a Domestic Adoption in the United States or an International Adoption in a different country. All countries have specific requirements that must be met before a family can be considered as an adoptive placement.

Domestic adoptions can be a way for an adoptive family to find a newborn infant who needs a home. The agencies work with birth mothers who choose to place their child for adoption. Some birth parents wish to meet and select the adoptive parents for their child. If an adoptive family is matched with a birth parent, then they will need to understand that the wait could be a few days to several months. Also, the birth parents may decide in the end, to keep the baby.

The fees can get very expensive. Many, families still choose this option because they desire to raise a child from infancy.

International adoption is another option for families who are looking to adopt an infant. International adoption fees are also very high when compared to fees for adopting a child that is in the state's custody.

However, this option has a greater chance of matching the adoptive family with an infant, then tying to find an infant in foster care that is legally free for adoption.

An International Home Study will be required and the family will need to submit the I-600A "Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition" as soon as they make the decision to search for a child internationally. They will also need to submit the I-600 form "Petition to Classify an Orphan as an Immediate Relative", when they are close to finalizing the adoption.
